First-use setup checklist

1 · Place

Use a stable surface

Carry the microscope with two hands. Place it on a level surface with room for the cord, slides, and controls.

2 · Start low

Select the lowest objective

Rotate the lowest-power objective into place, set comfortable illumination, and center the specimen.

3 · Focus

Find, center, refine

Use coarse focus at low power, center the subject, then use fine focus as magnification increases.

Common troubleshooting

Why is the view dark?
Confirm the light is on, adjust brightness, open and center the diaphragm or condenser as appropriate, rotate an objective fully into place, and make sure the slide is centered over the light path.
Why can I focus at low power but not high power?
Re-center the specimen at low power before switching objectives. At higher power, use fine focus and make small illumination adjustments. Do not force the objective toward the slide.
Why do I see a partial circle through the binocular head?
Adjust the interpupillary distance until both fields merge into one circle, then set the diopters using the method in the M1 instructions.
